A train crossing green hill country

Before you go

india, made easy.

Everything you need to know before you arrive. And for anything else, we are a message away.

Visas

your visa, simply.

  • Most visitors need a visa, and travellers from many countries can apply online for an e-Visa.
  • Apply only through the official Government of India portal, indianvisaonline.gov.in, and avoid look-alike websites.
  • Your passport should be valid for at least six months from the date you arrive, with two blank pages.
  • Apply well before you travel; we will remind you of the timing once your journey is confirmed.

When to travel

every era has its season.

October to March: cool, clear days across most of India, the best season for forts, palaces and cities.

April to June: hot on the plains, the time for the hills and the mountains.

June to September: the monsoon, when the Deccan hill forts turn green and misty and the crowds are few.

Wedding season: most weddings fall in the cooler months, on dates families choose as auspicious.

Health

  • Speak to a travel clinic six to eight weeks before you leave about recommended vaccines.
  • If you arrive from or through a country with a risk of yellow fever, you will need a yellow fever vaccination certificate.
  • Comprehensive travel insurance with medical cover is essential.
  • We serve filtered or bottled water throughout your journey, and every kitchen we choose meets our standards.

What to wear

  • Light, breathable fabrics, with something warmer for winter mornings and evenings in the north.
  • Covered shoulders and knees at temples, mosques, gurdwaras and many monuments; a scarf is useful.
  • Shoes come off at most places of worship, so slip-ons make life easier.
  • For a wedding, everything is taken care of: your outfits are chosen and fitted for you.

Money and tipping

  • Your journey is all-inclusive, so you need money only for personal expenses, shopping and tips.
  • Cards are accepted in hotels and most shops; carry a little cash for markets and small purchases.
  • Tipping is customary; we will share a simple guide before you travel.

Good to know

  • Time: India Standard Time, five and a half hours ahead of GMT.
  • Language: English is widely spoken, and your Saints and hosts translate wherever needed.
  • Power: 230 volts; bring a universal adaptor.
  • Staying connected: an eSIM or local SIM works well; we can arrange one for you.
